2005 chevrolet tahoe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It can haul more cargo than a chevy trailblazer or ford explorer yet it's easier to manuever than a chevy suburban, important in crowded parking lots, underground garages, or when parallel parking, plus it'll fit in more garages.  tahoe can carry five passengers and their gear at the same time. Pulling a trailer is no problem when equipped with the optional 5. 3-liter v8.  on the road, tahoe is smooth and stable. It really is like a rock. It has plenty of power and its brakes work well. The cabin is comfortable and familiar, friendly and functional. Turn off the highway and the tahoe handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud, and snow. In any kind of driving, it's a good choice for someone who needs real carrying capacity.  audio systems with touch-screen navigation are now available. Xm satellite radio delivers music, radio, sports, and other programming coast to coast. A rear-seat dvd entertainment system with wireless headphones keeps the kids busy.  safety features include hydroboost brakes, which maintain power assist even if the engine stalls or is turned off. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard and has been improved for 2005. Stabilitrak electronic stability control and traction control are available as options. Dual frontal air bags are standard; front side-impact air bags are optional. Latch child safety-seat anchors are provided.  improvements for 2005 include a quieter, higher-capacity electric cooling fan; a higher-capacity alternator; and aerodynamic enhancements that promise slightly improved fuel economy on some models. Generation 6 onstar with better hands-free capability is now standard on all tahoes. A z71 off-road package is available with 2wd or 4wd. The larger, 5. 3-liter vortec 5300 is optional on ls, standard with lt and z71. The vortec 5300 is rated 295 horsepower, 10 more than the vortec 4800. More important is the difference in torque: the 4800 develops 295 pound-feet of torque vs. 330 pound-feet for the 5300, both at 4000 rpm. Aluminum wheels come standard, with p265/70r16 all-season tires. Tahoe ls is available with 4wd 37,550). Z71 includes an off-road suspension with gas shocks and off-road jounce bumpers; heavy-duty locking rear differential; 3. 73 rear axle ratio; skid plates for the oil pan, differentials, and transfer case; high-capacity air cleaner; removable front air dam; tubular assist steps; painted front bumper; panted rear step bumper with pad; color-keyed grille and door handles; round fog lamps; roof rack with cross rails; dark gray lower rocker moldings; wheel flares; trailer package; and p265/70r17 on/off-road tires on 17-inch cast and machined aluminum wheels. Z71 also includes many of the same comfort and convenience items as the lt: the driver information center; bose nine-speaker stereo with rear audio controls, dual headphone jacks, and steering-wheel controls; power heated mirrors with turn signals and ground illumination; leather seating surfaces; power adjustable pedals; and six-way power front bucket seats. walkaroundchevy tahoe is an attractive truck, though it doesn't stand out with its conservative and familiar styling. It is essentially a shortened version of the chevy suburban and shares much in common with it.  the tahoe is the same width as the suburban, but it is more than 22 inches shorter than the suburban and nearly 9 inches shorter than the ford expedition. The tahoe is also nearly 11 inches shorter than the stretched, midsize chevy trailblazer ext (and only about 5 inches longer than the standard trailblazer). But the tahoe is more than 4 inches wider than the trailblazer ext, an important benefit.  tahoe comes with big outside mirrors that afford an excellent view rearward. The mirrors on lt and z71 models feature puddle lamps that light up the perimeter. Press a button and they fold in for parking in narrow places. Heating elements keep off frost and ice. The left mirror automatically dims to reduce headlamp glare. The hatch is made of aluminum for light weight. The hatch features a flip-up window, and being able to open just the glass is often more convenient when loading groceries or outdoor gear, especially since it can be operated with the keyless remote. The front seats are big, wide, and fully adjustable in the lt. Optional seat heaters are easy to turn on and adjust. Switchgear is nicely designed and easy to operate. The map lights can be aimed. Rubber-lined cubbies on the center console offer places to organize odds and ends. The ashtray can be removed to reveal another nice cubby for sunglasses and stuff. Cup holders are well designed. Three power outlets in front and one in back deliver electricity for accessories.  visibility is very good through big windows, but we'd like the option of an electronic park-assist feature to help maneuver this big rig in tight quarters. We appreciated the available power-adjustable pedals. Pressing a button moves the brake and accelerator pedals for an optimum driving position. This allows a shorter driver to move farther from the steering wheel (where the airbag is located). The tilt steering could use finer adjustments, but by adjusting the height and tilt of the seat it's possible for drivers of all sizes to find a comfortable position. Steering wheel-mounted controls add convenience and enable the driver to personalize functions.  we love the lt's electronically controlled, automatic three-zone hvac system for its sophistication and ease of use. Change the driver's temperature, for example, and a panel displays the new temperature for a few moments, then display's the passenger's temperature, then displays the driver's temperature again. It's easy to operate the controls with the big knobs and a clear led display that's easy to understand. Separate electronic controls for the rear seating area improve comfort for second- and third-row passengers and pets.  the standard ls setup is a manually controlled hvac system with three zones that allows temperature differentials of 30 degrees between driver and passenger. It works quite well. The third zone allows manual control of the rear air conditioning. Second-row bucket seats 490), an option on the lt, are less versatile than a bench seat, but more comfortable, more luxurious. We prefer the buckets. A pair of map lights flanks each dome light in the second and third row, a great feature when traveling or accessing gear.  the tahoe provides slightly more cargo space behind the second row than the ford expedition does (63. 6 cubic feet vs. 60. 9 cubic feet). Folding the second-row seats down provides enormous cargo capacity, 104. 6 cubic feet of cargo space, a bit less than the expedition's 110. 5 cubic feet. 2002 chevrolet monte carlo review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The car for nascar fans. introductionchevrolet says its 2002 monte carlo is 'classy with a wild streak.' the wild streak comes from the car being shaped in the wind tunnel for minimal drag and maximum stability because it of chevrolet's participation in nascar winston cup stock car racing. It is no exaggeration to say chevrolet and monte carlo have dominated nascar racing since the 'modern era' of the sport began in 1972. But it does provide spirited performance in its ss form. And its styling does attract attention. For 2002, air conditioning with driver and passenger temperature setting is standard on both models. Electronic traction control became standard on both models last year.  for 2002, a new enhanced premium sound system is available and includes eight speakers and an auxiliary amplifier. Also new for 2002 is a shoulder belt for the middle position in the rear seat and latch child seat attachment points.  available on the ss version is a high sport appearance package 2100) that includes full ground effects, a race-inspired spoiler, unique aluminum wheels, stainless-steel exhaust tips and a red bow tie identification in the instrument cluster panel. walkaroundmonte carlo is a slick car aerodynamically. However, it looks as if it were designed by a committee. Individual elements are attractive, but we're not quite satisfied with how they hang together as a whole. It looks like how it must have looked when the engineers and designers emerged from the last wind-tunnel session.  in addition its aerodynamic objectives, the monte carlo tries to integrate elements from past models. The result is a shape that's like nothing else on the road. In that respect, we have to give chevrolet high marks. Compared to pre-2000 monte carlos, this one has been strengthened in the roof, doors, and floor pan. An aluminum front cradle isolates the engine, transmission, steering, and suspension from the main structure of the car. The interior features a cast magnesium beam, called a magbeam, that fits behind the instrument panel to further increase chassis rigidity and provide a stiff mounting for the dashboard systems. As a result, the latest monte carlo is much quieter than any previous generation. Increased chassis stiffness also makes the car less prone to squeaks and rattles over time. interioroverall, the interior is a nice design with a sporty flavor that reminds us of corvettes and camaros.  the bucket seats are quite comfortable for around-town driving. Their shape makes it easy to get in and out of the car. Both seats are easy to adjust, and there's plenty of range for short and tall drivers. Front-seat passengers will appreciate the power seat option.  the instruments are nicely designed with straightforward gauges that are well laid out and easy to read. With black backgrounds, white markings and red needles, the look is not only racy in flavor, but also easy to read and scan, with the major and minor gauges placed on slightly different planes to add visual interest.  the ignition switch is conveniently located on the dash, well to the right of the steering wheel. This makes it easy to quickly get in the car and get going, or quickly get out of the car after shutting it off.  another nice touch inside the new monte carlo is its cockpit-style dashboard that houses those new gauges and controls. It separates the driver completely from the front passenger and provides fingertip access to every system in the array. It's a nicely styled package, and it works. The tall center console is a bit intrusive for drivers who like to shift the automatic transmission manually, however, and the t-handle shifter looks dated.  the trunk is large, but the opening is small, making it difficult to load big boxes. driving impressionstrong power and surprisingly good grip make the monte carlo an enjoyable drive.  the monte carlo ss features a thoroughly proven v6 that delivers 200 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. It may not hold a candle to some of the old v8-powered, rear-wheel-drive monte carlos, but it's more than enough to break the tires loose on this front-wheel-drive model. Punch the throttle and there's instant power and lots of it.  gm's popular 3800 engine is probably the most highly developed overhead-valve v6 in the world. With all the refinements that have been baked into it over the years, in terms of valvetrain friction, bottom-end strength and friction, and electronic engine management and fuel injection, this is about as good as it gets for an overhead-valve v6. In fact, it seems to miss the point entirely. As a tradeoff for the bite they yield, the tires are a little noisy. The steering is over-assisted in a lot of situations and does not provide as much feedback from the front tires as we would like, but it is tight and accurate. The monte carlo has the widest front and rear track in its segment. (the track is the distance between the left and right tires.) coupled with the tires and suspension, this makes for a platform that is good fun to drive down country roads, boulevards, or highways. Large, powerful antilock brakes on this monte carlo are up to the job. They have the largest calipers and rotors in the class. Shaped by the wind tunnel this is what the boys race every sunday. Otherwise, check out the impala. model lineupls 19,985); ss 22,785). assembled inoshawa, ontario, canada. options as testedpreferred equipment group 660) includes driver information convenience center with homelink programmable garage door opener, trip computer with outside temperature display and compass and anti-theft system, six-way power driver's seat, dual power heated mirrors; am/fm/cassette/cd stereo 345); six-way power passenger seat 325). model testedmonte carlo ss 22,785). 2007 chevrolet impala review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Upgrades improve this recently redesigned sedan. introductionthe chevrolet impala is a comfortable and convenient car, practical and enjoyable to drive. We find its neat, clean lines pleasing to the eye. Its styling looks fresh and it is. The impala benefits from its recent redesign for 2006.  several upgrades and refinements for 2007 make for a better car: the available 3. 9-liter v6 gets gm's active fuel management system, which idles cylinders at certain times for improved fuel economy. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard. Onstar comes standard and has been upgraded for 2007, offering the new turn-by-turn navigation service. And onstar will automatically communicate the nature and severity of a crash as well as its location to the 911 centers.  the impala is a big car. It's generally classified as a mid-size sedan, though it's large for that class, and nearly a full-size. The front and back seats are roomy, though not inordinately so given the size of this car, and getting in and out of the car is easy. And it has a healthy cargo capacity. It has a huge trunk and flip-and-fold back seats that present holding wells for groceries or a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items.  it's very stable on the open road, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the larger of the two available v6 engines, the 3. 9-liter v6. Step on the gas and it goes. And it handles well, in fact surprisingly well given its size.  several models are available, ranging from strong, reliable, fuel-efficient family sedan to sleek and powerful performance car. The mid-level impala lt probably best exemplifies the model line. We like the lt with the optional 3. 9-liter v6 engine, which gets gm's active fuel management system for 2007, which improves real-world fuel economy. The ltz adds leather and other convenience features. Anti-lock brakes are optional 600). The flip & fold-flat rear seats 275) are available. Leather seating surfaces are optional 1,125), which comes with heated front seats and a six-way power passenger seat. A flex-fuel version of the v6 can burn e85 ethanol; it's standard in some states, optional in others.  lt 21,440) upgrades to dual-zone air conditioning, bucket seats with six-way power for the driver, abs, traction control, dual exhaust, fog lights, 16-inch aluminum wheels, remote starter, and interior power outlets. The standard engine is the 3. 5-liter v6. The ss comes with 18-inch wheels and tires, a performance suspension, and leather-appointed seats.  for 2007, xm satellite radio is standard on ss; optional on ls, lt and ltz.  safety features that come standard on all impalas include dual front smart air bags and side-curtain roof-mounted air bags for front- and rear-seat passengers. All but the base ls model come standard with anti-lock brakes (abs) and traction control. walkaroundthe chevrolet impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car.  launched as a 2006 model, the design features smooth lines. The big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise.  the ls, lt and ltz are distinguished by exterior trim but share one front end design, while the ss sports a completely different design that includes a dual-split grille with ss-signature black-diamond crosshatch pattern. The impala ss also features corvette-inspired bright exhaust tips. A rear spoiler is standard on ltz and ss models, and is available on lt. interiorthe impala has a lot going for it inside as well. The cabin was completely redesigned for 2006 and, overall, we found it comfortable.  the standard seats have firmer cushions and increased lumbar support than previous models. We didn't find the ss seats particularly comfortable or supportive, however, with too much lumbar support and not enough side bolstering to retain the upper body in corners. Optional leather-covered seating has a new style of seams around the perimeter and french seams on the center sections.  a twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. Impala ls, lt and ltz models have wood trim, with brushed silver trim optional. The ss comes standard with unique metallic trim panels, with wood as an option. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are at least one grade better than the usual chevrolet stuff.  the dual-zone climate control system that comes on all but the base ls model is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side to side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff.  a new family of audio systems features radios compatible with generation 7. 0 onstar. The base audio system includes am/fm/cd and six speakers. An optional mp3/cd-radio is configured for xm satellite radio, with a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. More of them should be like gm's radios. It's sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional icdx radio adds an in-dash six-cd changer. All radios include a standard auxiliary input jack for external devices such as an ipod or remote cassette player.  the back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down; and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. A generous pass-through from the trunk can be created by flipping the seat bottoms forward and the seat backs flat.  the trunk is larger than that of most mid-size cars, at 18. 6 cubic feet, and a huge trunk opening makes loading easier. driving impressionthe chevrolet impala features a new generation of v6 engines. We found them to be smooth and quiet if not bristling with power. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions.  the 3. 5-liter v6 (standard on ls and lt) generates 211 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. We haven't seen epa fuel economy estimates, but we expect an impala with this engine to earn fuel ratings of about 19/29 mpg city/highway.  the 3. 9-liter v6 (optional on lt, standard on ltz) produces 233 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It adds a variable-length intake system to variable valve timing. New for 2007 is active fuel management, electronic software that shuts off three cylinders when full power is not needed. Chevrolet says active fuel management improves fuel economy by up to 8 percent in certain driving situations. Chevrolet has applied this technology before to v8s, but this is its first appearance on a v6.

2011 buick enclave review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The seats are comfortable, and it can be ordered with a second-row bench seat or luxurious captain's chairs, depending on whether seven- or eight-passenger capacity is needed. It gets an epa-rated 16 city and 22 highway miles per gallon with all-wheel drive, or 17/24 mpg with front-wheel drive.  with the optional trailering package, it can tow up to 4,500 pounds, though we'd prefer the truck-based gmc yukon for serious towing. Enclave rates 5 stars in frontal and side crash for both front and rear occupants, and 4 in rollover, by the national highway traffic safety administration. Luxurious, practical and safe, it's an excellent vehicle.  for 2011, there are few changes. Standard on the upscale cxl-2 model are 19-inch, 9-spoke chromed aluminum wheels, while three new metallic colors have been added.  enclave shares its basic platform with the gmc acadia and chevy traverse, but they are not the same and its styling is considerably different from its siblings. lineupthe 2011 buick enclave is offered in cx and cxl trim levels, each with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Enclave cxl is also available with awd 40,730).  options include a trailer towing package 455), second-row center console 300), power sunroof with second row skylight 1,400), audio system with touchscreen navigation and dvd rear seat entertainment system 3,185), wheel upgrades and paint upgrades.  safety features that come standard include dual front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain side airbags with rollover deployment, onstar emergency communications (with turn-by-turn navigation), tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes and stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control and rollover mitigation. All-wheel drive enhances safety in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe exterior design of the buick enclave is more elegant and refined than that of the gmc acadia, which is deliberately truck-like. The enclave carries the latest buick design language. All of the front lighting elements use clear lenses, with lots of different elements to please the eye and light the road. Everything under the bumper is kept simple and clean to draw the eye to that massive grille. The standard tires are 18-inches on seven-spoke alloy wheels, with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels and tires optional, and the big wheel and tire packages certainly add to the visual punch of the enclave. The roof and the side windows are done in a gracefully decreasing sweep from front to rear, accented by bright-metal roof bars that follow the roof's curvature perfectly front to back.  out back, the top-hinged tailgate with standard power opening and closing is a work of art, with the rear glass extending beyond the sheetmetal into the rear opening. The rear glass is quite large, and is convex-shaped, coming to a point just above the buick tri-shield logo and above the wide-screen taillamps. Under the rear bumper is a diffuser panel and dual exhausts with bright tips, making for one of the tastiest rear-end treatments in the crossover segment. interiorthe cabin is what sets the buick enclave apart from other seven- and eight-passenger crossovers. Starting with the double-wave dashboard and instrument panel and going all the way back to the rear cargo floor, it's as modern as tomorrow and as functional as a swiss army knife.  the chrome-ringed white-on-black instruments and analog clock are highly styled, with a soft blue-green illumination and halo lighting at night. The graphics are large and clear, and the wood is real. On the cxl version, the steering wheel is leather and mahogany, with 10 switches and controls mounted on it for easy use. The dead pedal on the far left of the floor was specially designed for use by women wearing high-heeled shoes.  the rearview camera projects on the rearview mirror when the vehicle is not equipped with navigation. In a messy chicago winter, the camera lens became speckled with dirt and salt, making the image hard to see in the rearview mirror. The optional navigation system with a larger screen is preferable.  we also drove the enclave in sunny california, where we gave the navigation system a good test, and it proved problematic, giving us incorrect directions a number of times. It seemed the closer we were to the turn or destination, the more lost it became. A couple of times it routed us around in a big rectangle, to get onto a freeway that was right ahead of us. We should point out that navigation system updates are available, and this might solve the issue.  seven- or eight-passenger seating is available: the standard seven-passenger, 2-2-3 seating scheme uses second-row captain's chairs with a feature called smart slide that allows easy entry into the third row by flopping the seats forward and sliding them fore and aft; this can also be ordered with a second-row console for storage and 12-volt power. Or, there's a second-row bench seat for a 2-3-3 seating scheme and a total of eight occupants.  either way, the driver and front-seat passenger have power seats. The third row is usable for more than just kids; it has enough headroom for adults, and legroom is good for kids and fair for adults. Three kids will fit across, but three adults will find it tight. Only small kids will find the third row comfortable for long trips, though, because the seat bottoms sit too low to provide full thigh support.  the enclave gets high marks for storage space and flexibility. There's 23. 2 cubic feet of cargo room just inside the power tailgate behind the third row, 67. 5 cubic feet with the third-row seats down and 115. 3 cubic feet with both rows folded. Up front, the enclave has storage on top of the dash for sunglasses, ipods, and cell phones. By comparison, the awd cadillac escalade is rated at 12/18 mpg. The buick folks have taken dozens of time-consuming and expensive steps to quiet down the engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive system and tires, to isolate the front and rear suspensions and steering from the cabin and to wrap the entire package in sound-deadening materials in the floor, pillars and doors, all under the heading of quiettuning. Conversations between first-row and third-row occupants at 70-plus mph were heard and understood in normal speaking voices, and the xm satellite music played through loud and clear at reasonable vo.

2009 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Well-engineered mid-size sedans and coupes. introductionthe honda accord comes in sedan and coupe versions. Either way, the accord is big on efficiency, be it getting the most power and range from a gallon of gas with the least emissions, making the largest interior available given the exterior space it takes up, or providing the smoothest, quietest ride possible in the lightest weight. A new premium package adds more convenience bits to an lx, and ex-l models add leather and luxury features.  the honda accord competes with the toyota camry, nissan altima, ford fusion, hyundai sonata, mazda 6, saturn aura, and chevrolet malibu. The extra space offered by the current-generation accord means that shopping list might also include the nissan maxima, toyota avalon and vw passat.  the accord coupe competes directly with the nissan altima coupe. The lx sedan 20,905) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power mirrors and door locks, variable intermittent wipers, tilt-and-telescoping steering column and illuminated wheel-mounted controls, folding rear seats, and an mp3/wma/auxiliary input 160-watt sound system. The lx-p sedan 21,905) is an lx with a premium package that adds alloy wheels, a power driver's seat, power windows with illuminated switches, security system, and a chrome tailpipe. They also come with five-speed manual or automatic transmission 800). All three add an in-dash cd changer, an information screen controlled by a selector knob, and 17-inch alloy wheels with p225/50 all-season tires; while the two ex models also benefit from a power moonroof, heated mirrors, driver power lumbar adjustment, and premium interior accents. To this the ex coupe adds a 270-watt stereo.  the ex sedan is available with a 271 horsepower 3. 5-liter v6 and five-speed automatic 26,605). It comes with most of the same amenities as the ex-l v6 sedan, and adds 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45r18 tires and a rear decklid spoiler.  the navigation system is packaged with bluetooth, voice-activation and steering wheel controls. Accords with this package are priced as separate models of the ex-l sedan 27,805), ex-l coupe 27,905), ex-l v6 sedan 30,905), and ex-l v6 coupe 31,155).  safety equipment is standard, with six airbags, including two-stage front airbags, dual-chamber front side airbags, side curtain airbags; active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution, and tire pressure monitors. walkaroundthis latest-generation honda accord stays true to its roots with contemporary yet conservative design highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward like that of the acura tl. Many modern design elements are the result of auto/pedestrian collision standards and the accord is not immune, even the wiper arm mounts are designed to break away when hit.  forward lights are aptly described as hawk-like and look fiercer on coupes because they use projector headlamps as opposed to the conventional reflector design on the sedans; v6 models include fog lamps. At the rear the lamp elements appear cut off at the style line rather than extending up to the top trunk seam. This contributes a sense of heaviness and more closely mirrors the princess rear end styling of the acura rl rather than the taut crispness of the tl.  following trends, the new accord is larger than any before, and although it competes in the mid-size market segment it is by epa interpretation a large car. Virtually every dimension save width is 2-4 inches smaller outside than that of the sedan. The coupe is sleeker yet still fits the accord mold. Stepping up to an ex-l with leather adds features, but the basics like seat design and driver ergonomics are shared by all accords.  the tilt-and-telescoping steering column provides a good range of adjustment to complement those available on the seat so all the masses can find a good driving position. There's a clear view all around outside, to the instrument panel with proven dial-and-needle gauges, and the information display or navigation screen is inset under a shade at the same height as the gauges; glare is controlled and it can be viewed with polarized glasses.  ex-l models come with leather on the seats, steering wheel, manual shifter and door panels. The ex-l leather appears of high quality and assembly as does the rest of the car. The center armrest was designed to be big enough for two adults to share without awkward glances.  rear-seat passengers will have few complaints as few do in large cars. Seat cushions and backrest carry right out to the door without wheelwell intrusion, offer space for a six-footer to sit comfortably behind another one, and easy entry and egress. The center seat is better padded than many, and as such it loses a bit of headroom to the outer seats. There are no rear reading lamps.  three interior colors are offered on the sedans, black, gray, and ivory, while the coupe goes black or ivory only. Honda's graphics for the variable intermittent wipers are among the simplest: rather than bars, lines or dots of differing size, the accord uses one raindrop for long interval and three raindrops for more frequent wiping. The shifter is right at hand, and the proper handbrake has short travel.  controls for sound, climate, and navigation are central below the navigation screen and vents. One row of switches controls audio input (am, xm, cd, etc.) and another row has six audio presets. Voice activation can handle a multitude of chores without a hand ever leaving the steering wheel.  all accords except the lx sedan include active noise cancellation, but we were hard-pressed to notice the difference between lx and ex. 2011 kia sorento review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new car-based version of midsize suv. introductionthe 2011 kia sorento is an all-new crossover utility vehicle, completely redesigned from the ground up with a totally new structure. The 2011 sorento is much more like a car than before. The new suspension is nicely tuned to muffle rough pavement. On smooth curves when driving a bit more aggressively, it feels decently agile and easy to control with perfect steering feel.  larger in every way than prior models, the 2011 sorento can be ordered as a three-row crossover seating seven. The new sorento also has 15-percent greater cargo volume than its predecessor. One walk around this stylish new sorento makes clear that it means to compete toe to toe with the premier midsize crossovers, chevrolet equinox, toyota highlander, ford edge, and honda pilot.  the exterior styling of the kia sorento is crisp, freshly contemporary. It delivers adequate performance and adequate fuel economy, achieving an epa-estimated 21/27 mpg city/highway for sorento 4wd with 6-speed automatic. Its interior uses quality materials throughout. To keep the front-row proprietors amused, the well appointed sorento features an am/fm/satellite/cd/mp3 (or add available high-power 10-speaker infinity audio), bluetooth connectivity, usb audio input jacks, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and either an available rearview mirror with backup display or a full-on rearview backup camera.  all in all, the 2011 kia sorento is a fully equipped contemporary family crossover. Sorento comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, lx and ex come with 6-speed automatic. Sorento ex v6 is powered by a 3. 5-liter v6 engine and 6-speed automatic.  sorento 19,995) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, am/fm/cd/mp3/sirius satellite radio, auxiliary and usb audio input jacks, bluetooth connectivity, tilt and telescope steering wheel, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, trip computer, 17-inch alloy wheels.  sorento lx 22,395) and lx 4wd 24,095) add body-color heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, auto-up and down driver window, illuminated vanity mirror, second-row armrest with cupholder. Convenience package for lx 1000) includes roof rails, rear parking sensor, rearview mirror with backup display, heated front seats, fog lamps.  sorento ex 24,595) and ex 4wd 26,296) upgrade with automatic dual-zone climate control with ionized air purification, fabric/leatherette seats, eight-way power driver seat with lumbar controls, fog lights, automatic headlights, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button start, 18-inch alloy wheels. Premium package for ex 1500) includes roof rails, leather seats, heated front seats, rearview backup camera. Limited package for ex models 2000) includes navigation system with real-time traffic, infinity 10-speaker audio, 18-inch chrome wheels, interior mood illumination, and high-style leather trim.  sorento ex v6 27,195) and ex v6 4wd 28,895) come with rear air conditioning. Premium package for ex v6 2700) includes roof rails, leather seats, heated front seats, rearview backup camera, panoramic sunroof. Dvd entertainment system package 1000) for ex v6 (requires sunroof delete) includes dvd entertainment with overhead screen and headphones.  third-row seating package 700) includes 50/50 split-folding third-row seats.  safety features include the mandated dual front airbags plus side-curtain airbags for head protection and front-seat side-impact airbags for torso protection. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, hill start-assist control, downhill brake control. It has a forward-lunging stance, the result of a low and compact nose, followed by long, dynamically rising lines to rearward. And kia has been particularly successful at executing the current high-grille look (dictated by body-integral front bumpers) without causing the nose to seem high and awkward.  the grille is flanked on both sides by sly-looking upper complexes for headlights and turn signals. Lower complexes contain foglights and are finished in matte-black to match the grille mesh.  to maximize interior volume, particularly in the third-row seats, the sorento roofline makes only a slight taper downwards at the rear. Similarly, the rear passenger doors extend back over the wheel housing to optimize access to third-row seats.  the sorento's shape is more than just a pretty face; it slips through the air at highway speed with minimal wind noise. And sure enough, there is gray simulated-wood trim, not the real thing, in the driver's compartment. But to deliver good value, kia goes for simple but handsome fixtures. The controls and switchgear are of high quality, with good tactile feel. This lacked some of the more sophisticated onscreen visual aids for backing while turning, as found on some premium crossovers. Similar units in some other vehicles light automatically upon being opened.  we found the driver's seat, with eight-way power adjustment and lumbar support, to be excellent, firm, supportive, confidence-inspiring. The right front seat, however, is adjusted manually.  the second-row bench seat was comfortable, though even with the front seat well forward, second-row legroom was so-so. But then, this is not a large suv and kia has achieved no spatial miracles. On the other hand, the company says a 6-foot, 7-inch nba player can drive the sorento in full comfort.  the third-row seats are a bit of a compromise, as they are in any but the most grandiose three-row vehicles. Tilt-folding the second-row seats forward to access the rear involves a bit of calisthenics, as the seats are fairly heavy. Once the unlucky, last-row galley slaves are in place and the second-row seats slam down and lock, the latches are hard to release and fold forward from the rear row. Headroom in the far rear is minimal, as well. The climate control worked flawlessly, offering strong volume when requested. And the rear roof-mounted dvd screen, which pops down behind the two front bucket seats, should provide plenty of amusement for those with nothing to do. Finally, with all seats folded down, maximum cargo volume is 72. 5 cubic feet, a massive improvement over the previous model. driving impressionwe're used to kias being small, cheap and cheerful, and this suv is certainly cheerful, in a roomy, upscale way. The new unibody construction isolates engine vibration well. Moving away from the curb onto choppy pavement, the structure again proves its worth, having excellent sound damping and an impressive feeling of sturdiness.  the macpherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension are nicely tuned to muffle and damp pavement irregularities the vehicle is passing over. On smooth curves when driving a bit more aggressively, this crossover feels decently agile and easy to control. Much of this is thanks to kia's firm, spot-on steering effort. Steering is power-assisted but requires the driver to make forthright moves to left or right, there's no light-headed wandering or numbness of any kind. This no-nonsense steering feel will prove invaluable when making an emergency accident-avoidance mane.

2011 kia sportage review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new and more fuel-efficient. introductionthe 2011 kia sportage, all-new for the first time since 2005, represents the latest move by the south korea car maker in its drive to become a household name, if not a regular dinner guest, in u. New car-buying families. According to the epa, the 2011 kia sportage earns a city/highway rating of 21/28 miles per gallon (substantially reduced from the 2010 sportage v6's 18/21 mpg). Helping those ratings is that, depending on the model and features, the 2011 sportage weighs 100-200 pounds less than the 2010 version.  the 2011 sportage lineup starts with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. Uplevel models use a 6-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.  we found the 2. 4-liter engine delivers its power smoothly and mostly in a linear manner, with only an occasional, slight surge after an upshift in the automatic as the electronics adjust to the changing load. Those gear changes are clean, if not remarkably sharp, with ready downshifts for overtaking or merging. Steering feels heavier in the awd version but reasonably responsive in both, with good directional stability. Awd comes with a limited locking feature for low-speed use in adverse conditions.  kia's southern california-based designers spared no pixels in styling the new sportage. From every aspect, the 2011 sportage is fresh and sharp, with the only obvious carryover feature the trademark oval logo centered in the grille and in the liftgate. Character lines are crisp but subdued, contrasting nicely with the overall rounded look. Blackened lower trim panels imply good ground clearance while keeping the tires visually in proper proportion to the body.  interior accommodations in the 2011 sportage are more comfortable than those in the 2010 model, if not as commodious. Front seats offer improved support in all areas, including for an occupant's often-neglected thighs. Leather-trimmed seats are available on the top model ex, as is an air-cooled driver's seat, which is a first for whatever the class segment is. However, the front seat passenger is left with fore-and-aft and tilt-seatback adjustments only, all manual. Hauling ability is a win/lose, with more space behind the second seat but less space with the second seat folded when compared with the previous model.  creature comfort and entertainment features follow the traditional pattern, with an am/fm/cd/mp3 six-speaker stereo and air conditioning standard. The upgrade audio system adds a subwoofer and an external amplifier plus what's fast becoming the required navigation system, in the new sportage with a touch screen that also integrates the display from an included backup camera. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional.  the sportage 18,295) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning; cruise control, tilt steering wheel, bluetooth capability, power windows, power locks, power mirrors; am/fm/cd/mp3/sirius satellite radio with usb and auxiliary ports; 60/40 flat folding rear seat; trip computer; and p215/70r16 black wall tires on alloy wheels. The base model comes with a 6 speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.  sportage lx 21,795) includes the 6 speed sportmatic automatic transmission, led turn signals on the outside mirrors, privacy glass on all but the forward windows and keyless entry. Optional are all wheel drive 1,500); a convenience package 1,300) with telescoping steering wheel, heated outside mirrors, cargo cover, floor mats, lighted vanity mirrors, cooled glove box, solar glass, and p225/60r17 tires on alloy wheels; and the navigation package 1,500) with sirius traffic information, rearview camera display and the premium audio system boosted by a subwoofer and an external amplifier.  sportage ex 23,295) and ex awd 24,795) add dual zone climate control with ionized air filter; power driver's seat including lumbar; telescoping steering wheel; auto headlamps; leather trimmed steering wheel and shift knob; lighted vanity mirrors; cooling glove box; solar glass; floor mats; and p235/55r18 tires on alloy wheels. The navigation package 1,500) is optional. The ex premium package with leather seats 3,000) includes leather seat trim, heated front seats, air cooled driver seat, push button start stop, panoramic sunroof, back-up warning system, heated mirrors 3,000).  safety features include full length side curtains with rollover sensor, abs, electronic stability control with traction control, brake assist and tire pressure monitoring system. Also standard on the 2011 sportage are downhill brake control, which when engaged automatically regulates downhill speed to no more than 5 mph, and hill start assist control, which keeps the sportage from rolling backward when starting on a hill. The optional backup warning system can further enhance safety by helping the driver notice small children behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundthe first major redesign of the kia sportage in six years shows kia doesn't consider itself bound by any evolutionary constraints, with impressive results. From nose to tail, from footprint to luggage rack, the all new 2011 kia sportage shares almost nothing with the previous model except for the south korea-based carmaker's trademark oval badge prominently positioned front and center in the freshly styled grille.  that grille graces a fascia that is more rounded in every respect. Compact headlight housings with slightly protruding, clear lenses curve around the front fenders. A contrasting, horizontal, cosmetic, barbell-like inset, the extremities of which host fog lamps on the ex, splits the bumper, which itself thins in the middle to open a lower air intake above a flat black lower body trim. The concaved hood flows smoothly back into the decently raked windshield. Viewed head on, it's a more planted look than its predecessor, a direct consequence of a track (distance between the tires side to side) that's fully two inches wider and a roofline that's more than two inches lower than the 2010.  highlighting the side aspect is a beltline (generally, the bottom edge of the side windows) that arcs dramatically from the trailing corner of the headlights to the leading edge of the taillights, giving the new sportage a wedgier but still soft profile. The high beltline reduces the real estate available for side windows, making for almost a chopped look, like street rods of the mid-20th century. A creased depression in the lower portion of the door panels breaks up the expanse of sheet metal, thereby lowering the impression of mass. The flat black trim from the front lower fascia continues around the sides, outlining the wheelwells, which the tires fill quite nicely, and underscoring the rocker panels.  most of the styling lines on the backside pinch inward, toward, again, the trademark oval parked in the middle of the liftgate. The backlight is about the same proportion to the bodywork as the side windows, i. Taillights narrow as they look toward the centerline. Turn indicators are slotted into the rear bumper, an interesting location that at first blush appears to favor a closely following driver at the expense of one two or three cars back. A creased lip marks the bottom edge of the liftgate, above a license plate space that occupies the middle of the rear bumper where a continuation of the flat black trim panel completes its circumnavigation of the sportage's lower body. interiorthe 2011 kia sportage interior takes the same leap as the exterior, from the 2010 model's mundane, ultra-base look and feel and feature organization to a modern, ergonomically friendly and eye-pleasing presentation in the 2011. Nothing too fancy or gimmicky, just well crafted and eminently usable.  essential instrumentation is easy-to-read analog, with a large, circular dial for the speedometer bracketed by a half-circle tachometer and inversely stacked temperature and fuel level gauges. A small, rectangular, led display inset into the speedometer face shows gear selection and trip data. The center stack is properly organized, placing the audio/navigation interface at the top, the climate control panel midlevel and power points and usb and auxiliary inputs tucked into the lower section, which also contains a smallish storage bin. Controls for the optional seat heaters fit in side notches forward of the shift gate. Climate and audio/touch-screen navigation controls are logically arrayed, finger-friendly knobs and virtual and real buttons.  a satin-finish, smoothly sculpted panel that hosts the instruments and the audio/nav panel seems to pop out of the pod-like dash, itself topped in industry-standard, glare-suppressing, grainy-textured, but not cheap looking, plastic material. The shift lever perches on the forward end of the center console, in which sit two cup holders (which need inserts for anything smaller than a big gulp) between curiously placed grab handles. The storage bin beneath the center armrest holds the charger for the transmitter for the optional keyle.
