2007 chevrolet impala review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Upgrades improve this recently redesigned sedan. introductionthe chevrolet impala is a comfortable and convenient car, practical and enjoyable to drive. We find its neat, clean lines pleasing to the eye. Its styling looks fresh and it is. The impala benefits from its recent redesign for 2006.  several upgrades and refinements for 2007 make for a better car: the available 3. 9-liter v6 gets gm's active fuel management system, which idles cylinders at certain times for improved fuel economy. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard. Onstar comes standard and has been upgraded for 2007, offering the new turn-by-turn navigation service. And onstar will automatically communicate the nature and severity of a crash as well as its location to the 911 centers.  the impala is a big car. It's generally classified as a mid-size sedan, though it's large for that class, and nearly a full-size. The front and back seats are roomy, though not inordinately so given the size of this car, and getting in and out of the car is easy. And it has a healthy cargo capacity. It has a huge trunk and flip-and-fold back seats that present holding wells for groceries or a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items.  it's very stable on the open road, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the larger of the two available v6 engines, the 3. 9-liter v6. Step on the gas and it goes. And it handles well, in fact surprisingly well given its size.  several models are available, ranging from strong, reliable, fuel-efficient family sedan to sleek and powerful performance car. The mid-level impala lt probably best exemplifies the model line. We like the lt with the optional 3. 9-liter v6 engine, which gets gm's active fuel management system for 2007, which improves real-world fuel economy. The ltz adds leather and other convenience features. Anti-lock brakes are optional 600). The flip & fold-flat rear seats 275) are available. Leather seating surfaces are optional 1,125), which comes with heated front seats and a six-way power passenger seat. A flex-fuel version of the v6 can burn e85 ethanol; it's standard in some states, optional in others.  lt 21,440) upgrades to dual-zone air conditioning, bucket seats with six-way power for the driver, abs, traction control, dual exhaust, fog lights, 16-inch aluminum wheels, remote starter, and interior power outlets. The standard engine is the 3. 5-liter v6. The ss comes with 18-inch wheels and tires, a performance suspension, and leather-appointed seats.  for 2007, xm satellite radio is standard on ss; optional on ls, lt and ltz.  safety features that come standard on all impalas include dual front smart air bags and side-curtain roof-mounted air bags for front- and rear-seat passengers. All but the base ls model come standard with anti-lock brakes (abs) and traction control. walkaroundthe chevrolet impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car.  launched as a 2006 model, the design features smooth lines. The big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise.  the ls, lt and ltz are distinguished by exterior trim but share one front end design, while the ss sports a completely different design that includes a dual-split grille with ss-signature black-diamond crosshatch pattern. The impala ss also features corvette-inspired bright exhaust tips. A rear spoiler is standard on ltz and ss models, and is available on lt. interiorthe impala has a lot going for it inside as well. The cabin was completely redesigned for 2006 and, overall, we found it comfortable.  the standard seats have firmer cushions and increased lumbar support than previous models. We didn't find the ss seats particularly comfortable or supportive, however, with too much lumbar support and not enough side bolstering to retain the upper body in corners. Optional leather-covered seating has a new style of seams around the perimeter and french seams on the center sections.  a twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. Impala ls, lt and ltz models have wood trim, with brushed silver trim optional. The ss comes standard with unique metallic trim panels, with wood as an option. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are at least one grade better than the usual chevrolet stuff.  the dual-zone climate control system that comes on all but the base ls model is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side to side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff.  a new family of audio systems features radios compatible with generation 7. 0 onstar. The base audio system includes am/fm/cd and six speakers. An optional mp3/cd-radio is configured for xm satellite radio, with a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. More of them should be like gm's radios. It's sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional icdx radio adds an in-dash six-cd changer. All radios include a standard auxiliary input jack for external devices such as an ipod or remote cassette player.  the back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down; and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. A generous pass-through from the trunk can be created by flipping the seat bottoms forward and the seat backs flat.  the trunk is larger than that of most mid-size cars, at 18. 6 cubic feet, and a huge trunk opening makes loading easier. driving impressionthe chevrolet impala features a new generation of v6 engines. We found them to be smooth and quiet if not bristling with power. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions.  the 3. 5-liter v6 (standard on ls and lt) generates 211 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. We haven't seen epa fuel economy estimates, but we expect an impala with this engine to earn fuel ratings of about 19/29 mpg city/highway.  the 3. 9-liter v6 (optional on lt, standard on ltz) produces 233 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It adds a variable-length intake system to variable valve timing. New for 2007 is active fuel management, electronic software that shuts off three cylinders when full power is not needed. Chevrolet says active fuel management improves fuel economy by up to 8 percent in certain driving situations. Chevrolet has applied this technology before to v8s, but this is its first appearance on a v6.

It's packed with new features, but the biggest improvement is its ride quality, a benefit of a new independent rear suspension. Indeed, keeping the giant sport utility, with its darty steering, sloppy suspension and rough ride, on the straight and nar.  When I last drove the Expedition, it was for a long comparison test with one of its prime competitors Climate Control✔ Air Conditioning

2002 chevrolet monte carlo review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The car for nascar fans. introductionchevrolet says its 2002 monte carlo is 'classy with a wild streak.' the wild streak comes from the car being shaped in the wind tunnel for minimal drag and maximum stability because it of chevrolet's participation in nascar winston cup stock car racing. It is no exaggeration to say chevrolet and monte carlo have dominated nascar racing since the 'modern era' of the sport began in 1972. But it does provide spirited performance in its ss form. And its styling does attract attention. For 2002, air conditioning with driver and passenger temperature setting is standard on both models. Electronic traction control became standard on both models last year.  for 2002, a new enhanced premium sound system is available and includes eight speakers and an auxiliary amplifier. Also new for 2002 is a shoulder belt for the middle position in the rear seat and latch child seat attachment points.  available on the ss version is a high sport appearance package 2100) that includes full ground effects, a race-inspired spoiler, unique aluminum wheels, stainless-steel exhaust tips and a red bow tie identification in the instrument cluster panel. walkaroundmonte carlo is a slick car aerodynamically. However, it looks as if it were designed by a committee. Individual elements are attractive, but we're not quite satisfied with how they hang together as a whole. It looks like how it must have looked when the engineers and designers emerged from the last wind-tunnel session.  in addition its aerodynamic objectives, the monte carlo tries to integrate elements from past models. The result is a shape that's like nothing else on the road. In that respect, we have to give chevrolet high marks. Compared to pre-2000 monte carlos, this one has been strengthened in the roof, doors, and floor pan. An aluminum front cradle isolates the engine, transmission, steering, and suspension from the main structure of the car. The interior features a cast magnesium beam, called a magbeam, that fits behind the instrument panel to further increase chassis rigidity and provide a stiff mounting for the dashboard systems. As a result, the latest monte carlo is much quieter than any previous generation. Increased chassis stiffness also makes the car less prone to squeaks and rattles over time. interioroverall, the interior is a nice design with a sporty flavor that reminds us of corvettes and camaros.  the bucket seats are quite comfortable for around-town driving. Their shape makes it easy to get in and out of the car. Both seats are easy to adjust, and there's plenty of range for short and tall drivers. Front-seat passengers will appreciate the power seat option.  the instruments are nicely designed with straightforward gauges that are well laid out and easy to read. With black backgrounds, white markings and red needles, the look is not only racy in flavor, but also easy to read and scan, with the major and minor gauges placed on slightly different planes to add visual interest.  the ignition switch is conveniently located on the dash, well to the right of the steering wheel. This makes it easy to quickly get in the car and get going, or quickly get out of the car after shutting it off.  another nice touch inside the new monte carlo is its cockpit-style dashboard that houses those new gauges and controls. It separates the driver completely from the front passenger and provides fingertip access to every system in the array. It's a nicely styled package, and it works. The tall center console is a bit intrusive for drivers who like to shift the automatic transmission manually, however, and the t-handle shifter looks dated.  the trunk is large, but the opening is small, making it difficult to load big boxes. driving impressionstrong power and surprisingly good grip make the monte carlo an enjoyable drive.  the monte carlo ss features a thoroughly proven v6 that delivers 200 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. It may not hold a candle to some of the old v8-powered, rear-wheel-drive monte carlos, but it's more than enough to break the tires loose on this front-wheel-drive model. Punch the throttle and there's instant power and lots of it.  gm's popular 3800 engine is probably the most highly developed overhead-valve v6 in the world. With all the refinements that have been baked into it over the years, in terms of valvetrain friction, bottom-end strength and friction, and electronic engine management and fuel injection, this is about as good as it gets for an overhead-valve v6. In fact, it seems to miss the point entirely. As a tradeoff for the bite they yield, the tires are a little noisy. The steering is over-assisted in a lot of situations and does not provide as much feedback from the front tires as we would like, but it is tight and accurate. The monte carlo has the widest front and rear track in its segment. (the track is the distance between the left and right tires.) coupled with the tires and suspension, this makes for a platform that is good fun to drive down country roads, boulevards, or highways. Large, powerful antilock brakes on this monte carlo are up to the job. They have the largest calipers and rotors in the class. Shaped by the wind tunnel this is what the boys race every sunday. Otherwise, check out the impala. model lineupls 19,985); ss 22,785). assembled inoshawa, ontario, canada. options as testedpreferred equipment group 660) includes driver information convenience center with homelink programmable garage door opener, trip computer with outside temperature display and compass and anti-theft system, six-way power driver's seat, dual power heated mirrors; am/fm/cassette/cd stereo 345); six-way power passenger seat 325). model testedmonte carlo ss 22,785).
